BONES Pet Rescue (Better Options for NEglected Strays) is a nonprofit organization. We are a rescue sanctuary where the focus is on elderly, disabled and hospice animals. Most have come to us from shelters where they were deemed unadoptable and would have been euthanized.

We are home to all types of animals, but primarily dogs & cats. Because we are in an isolated area with the closest alternative animal services over an hour away, we are often called upon to rescue younger, adoptable animals which we place in suitable homes.

BONES began in 1998 in Covelo California when a starved, emaciated young dog showed up on the school grounds. There were no rescue options, but someone knew about someone in the community to cared about animals and might be able to help. The dog was named BONES, and was nursed back to good health. Bones lived a wonderful life for many years and his legacy is what is now BONES Pet Rescue (of which he was a founding member!).

Since the year 2000, we have taken in over 5,000 animals who were sick, injured, stray or in many cases, abandoned. We have provided them with veterinary care, food, a comfortable place to live and in most cases, a new home with a loving family.

Some of the animals that come to us need critical care and in some cases, hospice care. We do our best to make sure they enjoy a good quality of life until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. We believe the end stage of life is just as important as the beginning.

Please help us by supporting our efforts to provide for animals in need. We rely on donations to sustain our rescue. EVERY dollar goes to the animals. We have no paid staff - just dedicated volunteers, who we cherish.
