Covelo Clinic @ UC Davis Spay-Neuter Clinic November 2023

I'm sorry it has been so long since I posted anything on the blog. We were preparing for our spay/neuter clinic. It was a grand success!

We are so very grateful for all the support we received for our clinic last weekend 11/11 and 11/12. It takes lots of planning and preparations. We had 91 veterinarians, vet techs and vet students from UC Davis to provide services to our community's pets. They spayed and neutered 101 pets, which is a huge help in avoiding more puppies and kittens being born when we all know that homes are scarce in these hard times. They also did vaccinations and wellness exams on a huge number of pets. The UC Davis crew is amazing. They were operating from 6:30 AM Saturday morning until 9:30 that night, then got up early to do the same thing on Sunday then driving back to Davis to their regular jobs or school. It's exhausting. We hope they feel the love and gratitude we have for them. They have helped our pets for many years. Each of them are dedicated to making the lives of pets much better. We are so fortunate that they have chosen our community to help. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

This is the intake exam area where the pet gets a complete physical in preparation for surgery.

The surgery room where there were 4 operating tables for the many surgeries.

This is the recovery area where the pets come right after surgery. They are monitored constantly. Their temperatures taken and heart rate and respiration inspected. They are kept warm with warming machines that produce warm air under the blankets making recovery a comfortable ordeal.

There are many different jobs and the work is intense and has to be done properly. In the background of this photo a technician is washing, packing and sterilizing instruments. In the foreground are students grabbing something to eat during short breaks from their work. One of the veterinarians never eats until the last surgery is finished. These people are dedicated!

At the end of the day (9:30 Saturday night), they all get together to discuss the days cases. Planning for the following day as well.

It was a very successful clinic. We appreciate all the help we got sponsoring and setting it all up. Our next clinic will be in March 2024. Below is the QR Code that guides you to the sign up list. The clinics are booked up much in advance, so anyone interested should do it now.
