Culvert Pups...The Sequel

If you can remember, we rescued 7 puppies from living in a culvert pipe on the reservation where their mom was trying to make a living on the side of the road searching for food and trying to survive. That was in October 2023. Sadly, we were never able to catch the mom.

Fast forward to June 2024 and there are more puppies :-( Our friend Esther, an avid dog person, has been feeding the mom and various relations in the area while we get a game plan to trap them. It's difficult because there isn't really a safe place to put the traps. She discovered where the mom had stashed the puppies and has been feeding them there so we have a chance to get them. It appears they are living under a house in the same area as the culvert the last pups were in. There are six of them.

Last week Esther caught two of the pups. Yesterday she was able to get two more. She's on a mission to get the other two and bring them to safety as well. It's critical because they are going into the street and can get hit by a car.

We have the four safely tucked away at the sanctuary where they have been vaccinated and dewormed and are enjoying regular meals and loving attention. They seem to be about 5 weeks old. We will update as the other two are caught and will join their siblings. Our next mission will be to catch the mom and her relatives that are living a feral existence. No worries, they are being fed in the meantime. These puppies will be spayed and neutered when they are old enough and be placed for adoption.

Stay tuned for updates!
