Yes, it is! And, we know first hand! We were called to take in a bunch of kittens from some feral cats that were living in someone's yard. He claimed not to be the owner. They were starving, sick and parasite infested. They appeared to be between about 4-5 weeks old. They were close to death and actually one passed away soon after we got them to our rescue. Luckily, they are young enough to socialize and hope to get homes for. We also trapped 11 feral adults which we will have spayed and neutered. The person who asked us to help originally told us that he would take the adults back and would feed them, but changed his mind and refused them. In the end, it will be better for the cats to stay here even though it puts an extra load on our already overflowing list of chores. These cats desperately needed care. Thankfully, all are doing well now. After only two weeks of touch and go, treatment, good food, medications and parasite treatments they look so much better. The babies just started feeling well enough to play and are acting like normal kittens. Plus, they are getting very tame. It's rewarding to see the difference two weeks has made and realize that without intervention their lives could have come to a tragic end.
