Saving Sebastian

A good samaritan brought Sebastian to us after finding him weak and badly injured in a remote area. He had a rope deeply imbedded into his neck so tightly that it nearly severed his juglar vein. His wound was filled with maggots and smelled terrible. We can't imagine how much pain he had suffered knowing this wound took a long time to reach that stage of devastation. It's amazing that a predator hadn't gotten him. Sebastian had to be sedated to cut the rope out of his neck, get the maggots out and clean up the rotting tissue around it. He was very thin and once awake had a terrific appetite. Over the following weeks the wound healed and he gained weight. We had one more hurdle, though. He needed to be neutered before he could join the other goats in the sanctuary, but he was too weak before he healed and recovered. That was accomplished and he is happily grazing in the pasture and getting all the hay he wishes, as well. He is a pretty handsome fella now. We love happy endings.
